Compliance Operations Copywriter

  • Full-time

Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Job Description

We are looking for a Compliance Operations Copywriter to join Compliance to deliver critical knowledge to both internal and external stakeholders.

Externally, this means helping our sellers make sense of complex situations in money movement—getting their money faster and protecting them along the way.  Internally you will help communicate Compliance policy and procedure to Customer Success Advocates and Compliance Agents who must execute and understand the steps they are taking and how they impact sellers.

You will partner with program managers, operations leads, engineering, and legal to increase usability and ease of use across Compliance experiences — carefully crafting and impacting the processes we rely on to grow and scale.

You will:

  • Write new and edit existing communication templates used by the Compliance team to communicate with sellers

  • Apply metrics, data, design research, usability testing, customer support insights, and more to inform content and language decisions

  • Drive best practices for customer communication in collaboration with other seller-facing teams across the company

  • Help the KYC team become more efficient by developing processes and workflows for maintaining internal and external communication standards

  • Build strong relationships with cross-functional team members and leads across the organization, and effectively speak to processes and value of the writing discipline

  • Manage your workload of multiple projects with different collaborators

  • Build an understanding of the Compliance Operations department and systems

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5+ years of relevant writing/editing experience

  • Strong attention to detail with regard to grammar, spelling, and punctuation

  • Ability to grasp business processes and technical solutions and make them easily understandable in text and pictures

  • Drive to perform sizeable content audit projects independently

  • Experience with writing and publishing a variety of documents to an equally varied assortment of audiences

  • A portfolio with writing samples of previous work specifically showing how you improved user experience through language

  • Experience navigating ambiguity and lack of structure

  • Comfortable providing feedback on UI/UX designs, asking thoughtful questions about product strategy, and applying insights from quantitative and qualitative research

Even better:

  • Experience writing for B2B audiences, FinTech or AML Compliance
  • Experience writing procedures for operational teams
  • Experience creating copy guidelines, working with design systems
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards
  • Experience in technical writing
  • Experience using content management systems (Contentful, etc.)
