Job Description
In the beginning of 2023 we established our Artist Engineering team dedicated to discovering, creating, building and shipping products for artists with the ultimate goal of empowering artists. Since then, the engineering and product teams dedicated to artists have grown and scope increased, we have a need to evolve and adapt for the work ahead.
We are looking for an Engineering Lead to head the Artist engineering team. The team consists of two squads with exciting charters to grow our business in fan and industry connectivity.
As an Engineering Lead of the Artist Engineering team, you will manage a team of engineering managers as well as individual contributors - this includes a reporting line of 45+ individuals. You will be a necessary member of our engineering organization driving the execution of our products, technology, and culture of our teams. You will report to the TIDAL Engineering Lead.
You will represent your team across the organization, working with cross functional partners across design, product, marketing and data. This impactful and visible role requires a leader who can build a long-term vision for the space, drive execution, and establish credibility across TIDAL.
You will:
- Collaborate with Design, Marketing and Product counterparts to create a strategy to build and operate the services that power TIDAL products
- Work with your group of Engineering Managers to define metrics and goals for squads that align with goals for the broader organization and bring clarity and focus for the team
- Build an outstanding organization by hiring experienced engineers and promoting a culture of ownership, inclusiveness, accountability, and urgency.
- Lead structure and process changes to ensure teams scale with minimal overhead.
- Mentor, coach and develop your engineering managers and engineers.
- Support the team in achieving quality and stability at TIDAL.
- Influence the engineering community and contribute to organization-wide programs.
- Ensure a reliable and stable artist platform and architecture
- Identify issues early to avoid major problems later
- Main contact point to engineering squad for stakeholders
- Foster a culture of transparency
Qualifications
You Have:
- BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum 12+ years of software engineering experience
- Minimum 4+ years of experience as a Engineering Manager
- Minimum 2+ years managing managers
- Experience effectively managing demanding stakeholders and partner relationships
- Technical to the point of having clarity with principal engineers and engineering leaders on architecture and engineering strategy decisions.
- Process orientation
- Experience with collaborating across functions and has the ability to make tradeoffs in a coordinated manner.
- Experience building a team, defining our mission, and implementing our goals. Able to demonstrate going through the whole full lifecycle of recruiting, mentoring, and retaining great people that fulfill this mission.
- A track record of achieving business and product success in a deeply collaborative organization where they are given a significant level of independence and accountability.

We are a remote-first organization but need to hire an individual in EST for this position.

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $269,600 - USD $329,500
Zone B: USD $269,600 - USD $329,500
Zone C: USD $269,600 - USD $329,500
Zone D: USD $269,600 - USD $329,500
