Finance & Strategy is responsible for improving strategic, financial and operational decision-making across the company. We are looking for a Finance & Strategy Senior Analyst, reporting to the Corporate Finance & Strategy Manager. This position will sit across Block’s business unit ecosystem and provide support to the Finance teams within Block. This position will interface with other Finance & Strategy team members to develop an intimate understanding of the overall business, as well as multiple different operating models. Insights are developed through frequent cross functional communication and coordination with our partners, and formulating how each of Block’s business units would operate as stand alone businesses. 

We have two distinct roles on the Corporate F&S team: Please note that candidates will initially apply to the general position and will be assessed for both roles in the final round.

Role 1: Corporate Consolidations and Topline Analyst

You will:

  • Help guide the financial planning process for Block’s Corporate Finance team, owning key financial processes, and focusing on P&L consolidations, performance reporting, and financial modeling & analysis.

  • Become the primary owner of our consolidated financial reporting model and develop a deep understanding of the P&L and flow of finances. 

  • Own topline revenue and gross profit consolidation and reporting to generate company wide insights while ensuring data and narrative alignment with Business Unit F&S. 

  • Collaborate with Business Technology teams and Corp F&S Data analyst on strategic transformation initiatives to improve accuracy and automate current reporting processes.

  • Apply expertise of Block's shared services (Foundational Teams) to each of the business units within Block’s ecosystem, to analyze each business unit as stand alone businesses.

  • Partner with cross functional teams including, but not limited to, Accounting, Treasury, Foundational F&S 

Role 2: Earnings and Competitive Intelligence Analyst:

You will:

  • Contribute to recurring earnings and management reporting (10-Q/K, Shareholder letter, intro remarks, guidance ranges) in partnership with accounting and investor relations 

  • Partner with investor relations, corporate development, accounting and other F&S strategic leads to drive competitive insights about Block and its peers 

  • Support ad hoc strategic deep dives during the annual strategy reviews 

  • Work closely with Consolidations and Reporting analysts to generate earnings related reports and analysis

  • Gain a deep understanding of Block’s strategy and operations 

  • Assist with framing the Long Range Plan (LRP) and Rule of 40 investment framework across F&S and guidance org 

Qualifications

  • 2-4+ years experience working in Corporate Strategy/FP&A, or at a top tier Investment Banking or Consulting firm. We are looking for candidates that have worked in a high-growth environment, performing complex modeling and analysis

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or other relevant field

  • Strong analytical skills and excellent proficiency in financial modeling (be prepared for an Excel-based case study) with effective communication skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • High level of intellectual curiosity, focus on generating results and having impact, deep interest in problem solving

  • Experience with analytics tools (Hyperion/Oracle/SAP) and data visualization tools (Tableau) preferred

  • Exceptional judgment and maturity, including an ability to execute independently and work with team members of all levels

  • Basic understanding of the payments industry and a commitment to Blocks purpose of Economic Empowerment

Even Better: 

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience with BI tools including Tableau and Looker

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $111,700 - USD $167,500
Zone B: USD $103,800 - USD $155,800
Zone C: USD $98,200 - USD $147,400
Zone D: USD $89,400 - USD $134,000
