Job Description

Marketplace under Cash App provides different payment products such as BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) or pay monthly to customers. The Credit Risk team is responsible for building systems that power credit risk management to all those products. Our services are part of Checkout, Home page and other key flows and are responsible for making lending and eligibility decisions for various products at AfterPay.

This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join us and lead the building of the next generation of Credit Risk systems that will help expand the capabilities of the platform. As a Software Engineer on the Risk & Data Science Engineering team you will be responsible for developing software to make an immediate impact to millions of customers at Afterpay. You will influence many aspects of our business through architecting our core risk systems. Your work will have a direct, tangible impact on our Afterpay business by helping to minimize loss and enable growth.

You will:

  • Act as the technical lead for the team setting the vision for the Credit Risk platform.
  • Mentor other team members with design, code reviews and development best practices.
  • Scope, build, and scale products, systems, and services that have an immediate impact on our millions of customers
  • Participate in all parts of product development, working with non-Engineering related disciplines (Product, Design, Risk Strategy) and adjacent Engineering teams (Fraud Risk, Machine Learning, and Data Science)
  • Owning features and functions throughout their lifecycle from inception, rollout, launch, scale and iteration. 

Qualifications

You have: 

  • 8+ years of experience delivering quality software and autonomously creating end-to-end solutions 
  • Experience building and managing large scale distributed systems
  • Boundless curiosity, persistence and a desire to get things done
  • Desire to perform and grow as an engineer lead
  • Experience building consensus on a technical initiative and hands-on leadership on previous projects
  • Contribute to the growth of our development capabilities through mentoring and supporting fellow engineers
  • Fraud, Credit Risk related experience is a bonus!

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400
