Product Manager, Team Management

  • Full-time

Company Description

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

Job Description

As Square has grown, so have our sellers – going from businesses with just a few employees to many (sometimes hundreds or thousands!). Square Staff offers access management, labor management, payroll, and communications tools that enable business owners, managers, and employees to thrive together. We are building the most intelligent back office software available anywhere, boosted by our ecosystem of data, 360-degree view of the business, and direct relationships with all team members. Square Staff helps give our sellers the peace of mind that their business is running smoothly, even if they're not physically present.

The Team Lifecycle group within Square Staff is responsible for all experiences that enable sellers to add and onboard their Team members to Square and to their business, including the capability to complete new-hire onboarding. As a Product Manager for Team Management, you will report to the Product Lead for Team Lifecycle and build products that make it easy for sellers to set up and manage their team on Square across Square's services in one easy-to-use experience. Your mission is to make it as simple to set up and manage a team of 5 as a team of 5000. You will help us identify and deliver the projects, features, and products that can have the largest impact on our existing and potential customers. Your scope will not just be individual features but scalable systems that help sellers manage their businesses more efficiently across all of Square. You'll work with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and data scientists to address high-impact seller problems, partnering with other teams within Square Staff and beyond.

You Will:

  • Own and drive the roadmap for improving flows and services that help sellers onboard and manage their team members within the Square systems

  • Direct and utilize user research, data analysis, and feedback from other product teams to identify high-priority seller and business opportunity areas to improve the team management platform to meet needs across the entire Square ecosystem

  • Advocate for the right seller experience in areas that have an impact across multiple products and drive alignment on strategies with other stakeholder teams at Square

  • Lead the planning, scoping, and prioritization of projects, including leading the roadmap and goals for your area

  • Determine features, write product and technical specs, and organize user studies

  • Guide the creation of platform capabilities that are delightful, scalable, reliable, and remarkable while anticipating non-obvious risks and resolving highly complex issues.

  • Work with engineering, design, and data to foster positive team dynamics

Qualifications

You Have:

  • You have at least 5 years of experience with directly building products as Engineer, Designer, or Product Manager with at least 2+ years of experience directly as a product manager

  • Excitement and interest in serving small business owners by meeting their needs around managing their teams and improving their operations

  • Experience developing product strategies and breaking them down into clearly scoped roadmaps and requirements.

  • Experience in advocating for customer experience on UI surfaces that serve multiple products

  • Ability to understand technical systems and how they operate, not necessarily in an engineering capacity, but enough to spot potential issues and make trade-off decisions.

  • Experience testing and launching products at scale and have worked within complex systems with multiple stakeholders

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create clarity from ambiguity and distill complex issues into easy-to-understand narratives.

  • Demonstrated excellence in using principled decision-making to manage diverse stakeholders, including peers and executive leadership.

  • Bonus if you’ve worked on creating delightful onboarding experiences and have dealt with issues of identity management and permissions within large systems
