Technical Program Manager, Foundational Engineering Operations

  • Full-time

Company Description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

Job Description

The Foundational Engineering team is the trusted partner for every Block employee and enables product teams to succeed. By providing connectivity, tools, technology, and platforms, the FE organization accelerates product and business progress with the goal of increasing productivity and reducing friction, while empowering our developers to do their best work.

Block operates a complex business development platform that requires continuous alignment, prioritization, and architectural evaluation across multiple teams, ecosystems, and business units; while delivering cost effective developer tools and services. With this level of complexity and size, standardized business processes and operational excellence are required to ensure that Block functions at optimal efficiency while minimizing operational ambiguity and spend. The FE Operations team is here to make sure Block achieves this goal and unburdens our engineering teams from having to focus on business operations so they can focus on their day jobs, engineering and development empowerment.

We continue to build out the Foundational Engineering Operations team at Block and are looking for an Operations TPM to join us. Our mission is to promote efficiency across Block by building initiatives, processes, and programs that support and ensure OPEX optimization at the foundational level. The FE Operations team is responsible for creating visibility into cost allocation by implementing Block wide process, sustainable business continuity, and quarterly and annual planning and forecasting. You’ll work across functional teams to further this mission by evaluating, analyzing, and implementing operational processes, identifying operational gaps, and iteratively and continuously deploying process and improvements. The ideal candidate will have a Finance, Technical, and Operations Management background as well as excellent: interpersonal, collaboration, and program management skills.

You will:

  • Perform a highly impactful, key operational role within the Foundational Engineering  ecosystem by creating, developing, and implementing standardized, repeatable business operations processes across Foundational Block.
  • Be a pivotal member of the Operations team by partnering with team members and stakeholders across multiple organizations to assist and support our Foundational Engineering business processes e.g. vendor management and roadmapping, headcount management and planning, annual and quarterly planning and forecasting, OPEX and CAPEX management and tracking, operational roadmapping, mergers and acquisitions.
  • Partner with the engineering and foundational communities to ensure business continuity across all operational fronts.
  • Create reports and visualizations that provide key metrics that highlight operational spending trends and allocation.
  • Create a standardized communication plan that is applied throughout Foundational Engineering.
  • Partner with Finance, Procurement, Recruiting, and Accounts Payable to implement operational standards.
  • Meet with executive leadership and report financial progress.
  • Act as a role model for business operations standardization.
