Job Description

You will be the first business intelligence engineer to join the Compliance Analytics organization - dedicated to the Square business - reporting into the Square Compliance Analytics lead. Over the last year the square compliance analytics team has been built to put data at the center of the square compliance organization’s operations, decision-making and customer impact. The foundation you lay will super-charge the team’s development velocity and unlock a new level of impact for the team.

The team will rely on you to set best practices for ETL management, data documentation and automation. You will transform our suite of reporting tools from self-serve to self-explanatory. Along the way you will uncover, size and eliminate the technical debt amassed over the years. It will also be imperative that you cast a long-term vision for the data architecture for new systems and tools in development. You will be fully remote and report into our Foundational Compliance Analytics Lead.

You will:

  • Chart a course for self-serve, automated reporting.
  • Identify and develop a roadmap to eliminate our known tech debt and solve the data engineering gaps that currently exist.
  • Rebuild our ETL and suite of  data pipelines to optimize for reliability, explainability following industry best practices.
  • Contribute to frameworks that improve data logging efficacy.
  • Build a process to document business logic and handle change management.
  • Architect a flow from source data to self-serve dashboard.
  • Partner closely with Product, Data Science, ML and Engineering teams.
  • Set and monitor SLA’s for all analytics data.
  • Provide technical guidance on best practices to data analysts on team.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 8+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6+ years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience as a data / analytics / business intelligence engineer or in a similar role, with 5+ years in developing and maintaining data pipelines and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience using it for data analysis and manipulation.
  • Understanding of data modeling concepts, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
  • Proficiency in analytics and visualization tools such as Tableau or Looker.
  • Expert level abilities in writing, optimizing and validating SQL queries to identify gaps and inconsistencies.
  • Experience defining problems and managing projects in a fast-­paced, evolving organization.
  • Experience delivering quality in code, reports, and analysis.

Preferred:

  • Looker development experience using LookML and Liquid
  • Proficiency in R
  • Industry experience in FinTech or AML Compliance

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $155,600 - USD $190,200
Zone C: USD $147,200 - USD $180,000
Zone D: USD $138,900 - USD $169,700
