Senior Product Manager, Developer Experience Platform

  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

As a Platform Product Manager at Square, you are the voice of developers who build the firmware and Android-based OS that our Hardware runs on, and for developers across Square who build on that OS.  You will proactively identify opportunities to improve, translate those opportunities into product requirements, and work with best-in-class engineering partners to achieve the desired outcome. You will develop close relationships with internal customers, become an expert in our data, and help program teams establish the right development models, all in service of defining and delivering a roadmap.

You will:

  • Develop expertise on Square’s existing build infrastructure, development tools, and Android-based OS to ensure strong product performance and inform future roadmap decisions
  • Own a forward-looking roadmap for Square Hardware’s developer infrastructure, balancing internal customer needs
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for developers on our Android-based OS to provide feedback, feature requests and partner on resolving urgent developer-facing challenges
  • Write requirements and run internal beta programs for new tools
  • Monitor performance of our developer tools and our OS platform, and investigate new issues to provide the relevant technical teams with a place to start and a sense of importance / urgency
  • Use data-driven decision making to prioritize what we are solving for our developers
  • Have a high-level understanding of technical and operational aspects of the platforms you support that need to be considered as context or inputs into decisions

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5-8 years of platform product management experience
  • Experience leading the delivery of features / projects which have a high degree of cross-functional complexity and integration.
  • Previous experience as a developer and building developer tools, including either:
    • Experience with mobile development, especially Android and (bonus) Android Open Source Project
    • Experience with developer tools and infrastructure enabling Android development
  • A track record of shipping and iterating on successful developer platform tools
  • Great organizational, analytical, and collaboration skills
  • A passion for Square’s mission of economic empowerment and well designed hardware products
