Job Description
We are looking for an experienced attorney to join our legal team to provide company-wide advice related to global anti-money laundering obligations, with a secondary focus on sanctions, export controls, and anti-corruption issues. This role requires a high degree of trust as you will advise the Chief Compliance Officer, Block-wide compliance team, and be an important partner to our individual product legal and regulatory teams. This is an amazing opportunity for a former government or regulatory attorney ready to share their expertise in a dynamic environment that gives rise to cutting edge legal issues. The role requires strategic thinking, masterful collaboration, and impeccable judgment. You will report directly to Block’s Litigation, Investigations, Employment, and IP Lead.
You Will:
Provide legal advice on issues related to compliance with anti-money laundering and sanctions laws and the development and enhancement of global, risk-based anti-money laundering programs
Recommend practical, effective mitigation strategies to address identified anti-money laundering and sanctions risks for all of our current and emerging business units, including peer-to-peer money service business (MSB), broker- dealer, payment processing, music streaming
Collaborate with our Policy, Compliance, and other Regulatory teams to architect advocacy strategies with important financial services regulators such as FinCEN, FCA, and OFAC, and play a key role in implementation of those strategies
Provide proactive guidance regarding anti-money laundering obligations in new geographic markets, including staying abreast of emerging issues
Lead company-wide responses to certain regulatory inquiries, investigations, and audits
Qualifications
You Have:
A law degree (JD) and you are licensed to practice in the United States
10+ years of relevant experience including working for the Department of Justice, FinCEN or other relevant financial services regulatory agencies
Deep anti-money laundering expertise related to financial services
A knack for translating your deep expertise into practical business-oriented advice
Strong advocacy skills

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $296,600 - USD $362,500
Zone B: USD $296,600 - USD $362,500
Zone C: USD $296,600 - USD $362,500
Zone D: USD $296,600 - USD $362,500
