Product Marketing Manager, Square Payroll

  • Full-time

Company Description

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Job Description

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

We are looking for a strategic, results-driven individual to join as a Product Marketing Manager to drive and execute meaningful growth plans for Square Payroll. As a Square Payroll PMM, you will partner with cross-functional teams to conceive, run and scale programs and initiatives that drive growth on core product and business metrics.

The ideal candidate is an independent product marketer with a solid understanding of product strategy, funnel optimization, and marketing execution. We are looking for someone who is an excellent cross-functional collaborator who has experience across the full acquisition funnel, driving growth and lifecycle campaigns, from ideation to analysis and optimization.

Reporting to the Payroll PMM Lead, the Payroll PMM will champion the customer when developing and marketing our products and partner with multiple internal teams to ensure the right customers are getting the right messages, through the right channels at the right time.

You will:

  • Develop and execute marketing strategies and lead cross-functional initiatives that drive growth and business impact for Square Payroll.
  • Understand our target customers, their needs/expectations, and how products will meet those needs through surveys, interviews, as well as feedback from Account Management, Sales, and Customer Success teams.
  • Develop data-driven lifecycle marketing strategies to promote product growth and retention.
  • Track marketing program performance and increase impact through continuous testing.
  • Surface and represent the progress of key initiatives to senior stakeholders.
  • Keep a pulse on competitors, helping our teams stay up to speed on the latest industry trends.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Design and Engineering to understand product growth levers, support the launch of new Payroll features, and define product strategy.
  • Analyze the impact of growth initiatives, define and report on product and business KPIs, and present recommendations to executive stakeholders.
  • Own the metrics - be comfortable tracking and reporting out on goals, measuring performance, and identifying optimization opportunities
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research (surveys, interviews, and product usage) to gain a deep empathy for our customers and shape product and marketing strategies.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5+ years of experience in product marketing, solutions marketing, growth or lifecycle marketing, or similar go-to-market positions.
  • Experience working in SaaS marketing, preferably with experience in B2B technologies, or with exposure to SMB audiences.
  • Experience managing a product or solution across the product lifecycle.
  • Experience working closely with product management, data science, engineering, product design teams as well as customer facing teams including sales, account management, and customer support.
  • Experience managing GTM launches for significant customer-facing features and/or products.
  • Proven success driving acquisition, conversion, and usage via email, in-product, content marketing, and other owned channels.
  • Demonstrated track record developing and executing campaigns, analyzing and translating data into business and consumer insights.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel or Google Sheets and writing SQL queries -- you can pull your own data to answer your questions.
  • Familiarity with marketing automation and analytics tools.

Even better:

  • Experience using data visualization tools (ie. Looker)
  • Experience in fintech, marketing to small businesses.
  • Experience with triggered / behavior based marketing.
