Product Designer, Invoices

  • Full-time

Company Description

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, offer buy now, pay later functionality through Afterpay, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

Job Description

We are looking for a Product Designer that enjoys turning complex problems into creative solutions and helps steer product strategy to join the Square Invoices design team. Invoices are essential to Square's ecosystem, enabling sellers to get paid remotely across web and mobile interfaces.

Your work at Square will range from primary research to information architecture, rapid prototyping, and high-polish visual design. This is a remote-friendly position. You will report to the Design Lead for Invoices.

You Will:

  • Help shape our product's strategy and experience, allowing our sellers flexible payment options and streamlined payment workflows without compromising simplicity and ease of use.
  • Report into a multi-disciplinary design organization that works alongside other product designers, researchers, content designers, product managers, analysts, product marketing managers, and full-stack engineers.
  • Help solve the challenges a business faces when bidding for work, getting paid, managing cash flow, and keeping operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • A portfolio of work on which you were the primary designer, with moderate guidance from design leadership
  • The ability to articulate high-level team goals and connect your work to larger team or company initiatives
  • Around 5 years of professional design experience
  • You actively plan, scope, and create work that contributes to a larger, long-term plan
  • You know when to compromise without sacrificing user experience or design principles
  • You are an advocate for the customer
  • You effectively communicate your ideas and work to your direct team and other teams
  • You work on challenging, wide-reaching projects for your team with little guidance from your lead
  • You always think about how your work fits into the company’s full ecosystem during all phases of the design process
  • You propose and participate in usability and field research
