Job Description

We are looking for a senior Data Science, Analytics, and Data Engineering leader to lead a large multi-disciplinary data team focused primarily on Afterpay and its adjacent product lines (i.e. “Marketplace”).

You will be a part of the broader Cash App Data organization and report directly to Cash App’s Head of Data. You will partner directly with some of the businesses most senior product and business leaders to drive organizational and business strategy. You will interface often with members of the executive team across both Cash App and Square. You will play a key role in defining our company-wide data strategy, implementing best practices, and helping drive our data-driven culture. We are looking for someone who will thrive in a fast-paced environment, has experience building/leading large global organizations, and is capable of diving into details as needed.

The team today consists of three primary groups: a 40-50 person organization that provides embedded data science support directly to product development teams, a 25-30 person data science team that provides analytics support to Marketing and Sales organizations, as well as a 20-25 person data engineering team that owns critical data pipelines and tools that underpin much of the aforementioned work.

You will:

  • Lead, build, and develop a global multi-disciplinary data organization of 80-100+ people
  • Partner, build trust, and collaborate closely with senior product, business, and engineering leads
  • Effectively communicate your team’s work with senior leadership and the executive team on a regular basis
  • Help define and evolve our data science, analytics, and data engineering disciplines in partnership with other senior data leaders across the company
  • Interface often with senior engineering leaders across cloud platforms, privacy, and security to help drive and land complex, multi-year data infrastructure initiatives
  • Help drive clarity and efficiency by designing your organization to meet the needs of the business 
  • Provide coaching and support for managers across your organization
  • Promote a culture of learning and inclusiveness
  • Evangelize a data-driven culture and experimentation best practices
  • Play a leading role in our approach to data governance (data quality, integrity, lineage, etc.)
  • Help shape the entire company’s data and analytics strategy

Qualifications

You have:

  • 15+ years of data science, analytics, and/or data engineering experience with 7-10 years of people management experience.
  • A background in Math, Statistics, Economics, or a related technical field
  • Strong familiarity with the modern data stack (Snowflake, SQL, Python, Kafka, Tableau, Mode, Prefect, etc.)
  • Deep expertise in statistics and experimentation with a significant appreciation of concepts such as causality, selection biases, incrementality, cohort analyses, funnels, etc.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion for Block’s purpose of economic empowerment

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $269,600 - USD $329,500
Zone B: USD $269,600 - USD $329,500
Zone C: USD $269,600 - USD $329,500
Zone D: USD $269,600 - USD $329,500

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
