Job Description

You will lead Square's Partner Risk and Compliance function and report to the Compliance Officer, Square. You will oversee our compliance programs and compliance relationships with payment network partners, acquiring partners, and other third parties. You will lead the team, develop a strategy for the function, guide the programs forward, and complete other compliance projects with company-wide impact. You will support Square's compliance vision by working together with other compliance and counsel personnel to guide the compliance program forward, focusing on partner risk and third-party compliance.

You Will:

  • Develop the vision for the partner risk and compliance function
  • Lead a team responsible for ensuring compliance with payment network and acquiring partner rules and reviewing third-party relationships
  • Manage projects that span several departments, partners, and international regions
  • Coordinate your team’s activities with the other functions in Compliance Governance and the broader Compliance organization
  • Research relevant laws, regulations, and payment network rules and work with Compliance Governance, Product Compliance Managers, Legal, and Payment Operations to provide guidance and interpretation
  • Develop relationships with important contacts at payment networks and acquiring partners
  • Communicate complex legal and regulatory concepts
  • Provide advice for designing policies, programs, procedures, and other controls
  • Lead and contribute to special projects with importance to Square’s compliance program

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 8+ years in a senior Compliance role in financial services with advisory skills
  • 5+ years of people management experience
  • Deep operational knowledge in building and running a sound Compliance program
  • Experience with payment regulations, network rules, e-commerce, and AML 
  • Analytical and metrics-driven approach to create substantiated solutions
  • Expertise in one of the following subject-matter areas: payment network rules (e.g. Visa, MasterCard), merchant acquiring, brand risk management, or vendor risk management
  • Developed compliance risk management programs
  • Credibility with business leads, external partners, and regulators through collaborative and independent programs
  • Experience coaching and developing teams

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $222,800 - USD $272,300
Zone B: USD $222,800 - USD $272,300
Zone C: USD $222,800 - USD $272,300
Zone D: USD $222,800 - USD $272,300

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
