Job Description

Block is looking for a litigator passionate about all things IP to join our IP litigation team. You will be on the front line of our IP litigation matters, responsible for managing pre-litigation, licensing, litigation, and alternative dispute resolution. You will delve into matters spanning patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret. You will gain an understanding of Block's business units and their respective products and services. You will partner with our colleagues across Block's business units to craft and implement strategies to further business needs and mitigate risk. You will report to our IP Litigation Lead. You will be remote or work from any of Block's U.S offices. 

You Will:

  • Field, assess, and investigate in-bound IP licensing demands
  • Directly support and resolve small to medium IP litigation matters
  • Manage outside counsel for IP litigation matters as warranted
  • Support our teams on issues of IP risk, compliance, and optimization
  • Work on and resolve general litigation matters and needed

Qualifications

You Have:

  • JD and a U.S. state bar membership or a patent bar membership
  • 5+ years experience in litigation at top tier law firm, government, or in-house
  • Experience in some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas of IP litigation: copyright, trademark, trade secret, and patent; general litigation
  • Significant experience drafting and reviewing motions in federal and state courts
  • Experience partnering with product development implementation teams
  • Flexibility and desire to grow as Block's legal needs evolve and expand

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $188,400 - USD $230,200
Zone C: USD $178,200 - USD $217,800
Zone D: USD $168,100 - USD $205,500

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a commission plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
