The Risk Management team at Square is responsible for protecting our sellers from fraud and Square’s bottom line from credit and fraud losses. As a Business Intelligence Data Engineer within the Risk team, you will define, develop, and manage curated datasets, key risk business metrics and reporting for the various products and services across the Square seller ecosystem. 

You will architect, implement and manage data models and ETLs that will enable product and business teams to self serve and access consistent metrics. You will work cross-functionally with other teams across Square.

You will:

• Partner with functional leads to understand their data and reporting requirements, and translating them into definitions and technical specifications (PRD)
• Define, develop, and optimize curated datasets and schemas with standardized metrics and definitions across the our organization
• Manage the data migration to new platforms and tools
• Develop, deploy, maintain, and optimize data models, pipelines, ETL jobs and visualizations
• Model data in Looker or similar visualization tools, to empower data access and self-service resources so your expertise can be used where it is most impactful
• Work with technical partners in the data platform engineering team on designing and developing robust data structures and highly reliable data pipelines
• Troubleshoot technical issues with platforms, performance, data discrepancies, alerts etc.
• Perform ad hoc analysis, insight requests, and data extractions to resolve important business and infrastructure issues

• 2+ years of data engineering experience with an understanding of database management and cloud computing databases
• Experience with data warehousing architecture
• Hands-on experience with data modeling and dimension modeling design
• Experience with end-to-end ETL pipeline development and implementation using SQL
• Experience building reports with Looker, Tableau, or similar BI visualization tools.
• Hands-on experience on cloud-based computing services and data warehouses like Snowflake, Redshift, Azure, or similar

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $125,600 - USD $153,600
Zone B: USD $119,300 - USD $145,900
Zone C: USD $113,000 - USD $138,200
Zone D: USD $106,800 - USD $130,600
