Job Description
Our Commerce team is building an ecosystem to connect customers to brands they love to help both thrive. Whether offering top merchant deals or giving customers the ability to pay now or and pay later, our team is focused on helping our customers save and spend responsibly.
We are looking for a passionate and talented Product Designer Manager to join our growing design team. Our focus is to create world-class experiences for our customers. We pride ourselves in rethinking established paradigms and have a passion for creative problem solving, business strategy and technology.
You will be a strong independent leader who can hit the ground running, own larger strategic design efforts, and be responsible for recruiting and leading a team of talented product designers. You will inspire your team through empowerment and growth to develop their own influence within the organization, whilst partnering with product, engineering, and data leaders.
Our product design team owns the end-to-end customer experience, from ideation to creating tangible solutions and delivery to market. You'll be responsible for individual mentoring or coaching to help create a compelling vision, guide strategic thinking and uplift the design craft. You’ll foster an environment for creativity and growth, eliminate roadblocks for your team, and focus on best practices for recruiting and retaining top talent. As well as actively contribute to the design community to help influence and promote the value of design.
Qualifications
- 3+ years experience in people leadership, with a proven track record of sourcing and growing talent
The ability to inspire and enable your team, and foster personal development and growth aligned to individual goals and areas to unlock potential
Proven success shaping design processes and environments to empower individual contributors to do their best work
Proven success designing and shipping high-quality, impactful, end-to-end experiences as a design lead and/or manager
Capable of delivering high-quality design feedback with recommendations that support customer and business outcomes
A passion for inspiring vision and storytelling with a natural focus on creating a compelling customer narrative
The ability to provide strategic alignment for discovery research to help uncover new opportunities and validation of customer value propositions
The ability to strategically influence product roadmaps by partnering with other design, product and engineering leaders
Help to drive the definition of success and key metrics with business teams that support customer outcomes and continuous improvement
A natural instinct to lean into ambiguity and tackle large, complex problems head-on to help the team keep moving forward with clear direction
Comfort in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders
Extensive experience working collaboratively with leadership teams and comfort presenting and working with senior executives
Even better:
Experience shaping organizational design and structure to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and a growing team
A proven history of documenting and championing the value and impact of design throughout their organization
Strong emotional intelligence leadership supporting self-awareness, self-management, empathy, humility and social awareness
Ability to lead teams through complex and ambiguous problems to drive positive change and outcomes aligned to business strategy
Take an active role engaging and sharing knowledge within the design community and leadership teams

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
