Our mission is to build scalable, secure, infrastructure for hundreds of geographically distributed microservices. The software provided by the Traffic team is essential for reliably serving customer traffic and facilitating service-to-service RPC. You will report to the lead of the Traffic team.

You Will:

• Develop an Envoy-based service mesh made up of both cloud and on-premises applications.
• Develop reliable, important software-based L4 and L7 edge proxies.
• Provide seamless service discovery for every application at Square whether in the cloud or on-premises.
• Use our service mesh to empower product developers with features like intelligent rate-limiting and circuit-breaking for preventing cascading failures.
• Contribute to the upstream Envoy project.
• Participate in a team on-call rotation.

We believe that a well designed production environment can be simple and beautiful. We are looking for experienced engineers with a passion to build reliable infrastructure.

You have:

• 3+ years of software development experience in Java, Go or similar. C++ experience a bonus.
• Experience building, operating and maintaining low-latency, reliable services.

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
