Job Description

Cash App’s OpsPlat team is looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager to join us to develop a holistic operational tooling product that will multiply Cash’s ability to enable new and changing operational needs. OpsPlat is responsible for bridging the gap between our product (Cash App) and the business. This is not a DevOps role or internal (dev) tools team.

In this role, you will lead Ops Success Eng by managing several teams of brilliant software engineers that pioneered in establishing partnership with Cash Customer Operations, and have been indispensable in each other’s success & growth ever since. You come with several years of management  experience and understand how to bridge the gap between different business units while collaborating with cross functional partners. You are a strong mentor and coach, who has a track of records to grow leaders. You care deeply about building the right culture. You proactively drive clarity, and excel at communication. You will report directly to an OpsPlat Core Lead.

As a member of the Cash engineering team, you’ll collaborate with us to:

  • Lead several engineering teams on cross cutting solutions for Cash’s operational needs

  • Foster positive relationships across the business to further meet our objectives

  • Share ownership of the business’s tooling and infrastructure

  • Scale systems to our growing customer base

  • Contribute to the broader tech, leadership, and open source communities

Qualifications

You have:

  • Strong desire to perform and grow as an Engineering Manager

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical, working experience (5+ years preferred) 

  • 4+ years of experience managing teams and leading people

  • Demonstrated initiative on previous projects

  • Have a strong bias toward serving your team and stakeholders

  • Growth mindset and a healthy comfort with ambiguity

  • Strong communication skills and empathy

Even better:

  • Experience with operational solutions

  • Experience with end to end development including mobile

Technologies we use and teach:

  • Java 11/Kotlin, including JUnit, Hibernate, Guice, and Jersey

  • HTTP, JSON, gRPC, and Protocol Buffers

  • MySQL, Vitess, event sourcing

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $222,800 - USD $272,300
Zone B: USD $211,600 - USD $258,600
Zone C: USD $200,500 - USD $245,100
Zone D: USD $189,400 - USD $231,400
