Job Description

Square is looking for an editor/director/content creator to join our Global Brand Creative team. You will work on concepting, developing, editing, and sometimes shooting content for social media, web, and owned channels. You’ll be part of a multi-disciplinary team of creatives, from art directors to writers to photo creatives, to tell real human stories and help shape the perception of Square as a world-class, iconic brand. 

You’re an expert in storytelling. As part of your professional experience, you’ve edited documentary stories and branded content. You can tell a story in 15 seconds. You love emotional, character-driven shorts as much as you love educational-driven (but still entertaining) tutorials. The content you create feels authentic and personal, brings to life human truths and insights, and can make people feel something. You are deeply curious about TikTok and can shoot a reel on your phone on demand. For you, it would be a dream to hop on a plane, meet incredibly interesting entrepreneurs, shoot their story, and come back with different ways to bring their story to life. You are amazing at working with people and directing them on camera, making them feel comfortable and at ease. You love concepting new ways of storytelling and have a breadth of visual references from film and art direction at your fingertips. 

Ideally, you enjoy going deep on various subject-matters related to entrepreneurship, community, financial independence, cultural impact of business, and have a passion for people. You will originate new and substantive ideas that define a unique perspective to our brand storytelling — you’re aware and avoid the oversaturated, obvious, and stereotypical tropes. You should be a self-starter and an early adopter with a stable tenacity in the face of ambiguity.

You Will: 

  • Concept, develop, and create content about real people
  • Experience working with brands and integrating business narratives
  • Ability to edit documentary-based content, especially in short form
  • Ability to shoot content, both with a crew and by phone
  • Concept and edit content using existing assets
  • Iterate and communicate ideas across multiple levels of fidelity (mood boards, concept statements, design explorations, art direction boards, style frames, presentations)
  • Partner with copywriters, designers, and cross-team to translate marketing strategies into creative concepts
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a conceptual and strategic partner
  • Maintaining a positive and supportive team mentality in an open environment while actively working to lead projects through concept to execution

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 2+ years of industry experience; agency, design studio, production house, or relevant in-house marketing experience or internship
  • Experience creating branded content featuring real people
  • Expertise working in Adobe Creative Suite - Premiere (any After Effects is a plus)
  • Experience working with Frame.io
  • Ability to concept and develop content ideas based on an ovearching creative platform
  • Ability to follow and build upon campaign identities
  • Understanding of industry trends and today's creative landscape—how users engage with content, and trends within the marketing
  • A positive, high-transparency, and collaborative approach to your work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $94,400 - USD $115,400
Zone B: USD $87,800 - USD $107,400
Zone C: USD $80,300 - USD $98,100
Zone D: USD $70,800 - USD $86,600

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
