Product Designer, Square Bill Pay

  • Full-time
  • Alternate Location: Los Angeles, United States

Company Description

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.

To solve this problem, we expanded into software and built integrated solutions to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

Job Description

We are looking for a collaborative senior level Product Designer to join the Square Bill Pay design team. Bill Pay is a net new product offering in the Square ecosystem, helping sellers make payments remotely across web and mobile interfaces, and manage their cash flow.

Your work at Square will range from primary research to information architecture, rapid prototyping, and high-polish visual design. You will report into a diverse design organization that works alongside other product designers, researchers, product managers, analysts, product marketing managers, and full-stack engineers. Bill Pay offers a unique challenge that requires designers to solve for a new and ambiguous space that has not been previously developed within the Square ecosystem. 0-1 thinking is integral to this product's success, and you'd be able to drive the design and approach on features that empower small- and medium-sized businesses and the people behind them. The Product Design Lead will be your direct manager. This is a remote-friendly position.

You Will:

  • Drive design execution for our Bill Pay team
  • Shape our product's strategy around core payments with deep experience design and architecture skills to create features that empower small and medium-sized businesses and their employees.
  • Help solve the challenges that a business faces when bidding for work, getting paid, managing cash flow, and keeping operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • At least (7) years of relevant professional experience
  • You have a portfolio that shows work you were directly responsible for with little guidance from leadership
  • Experience as a primary contributor to multiple high impact projects

Even Better:

  • You proactively formulate ideas and present them to your cross-functional team to determine strategy and roadmaps
  • You can effectively question and collaborate with your leadership peers and drive conversations to next steps
  • You're seen as a mentor for other designers and proactively provide feedback and find ways to improve their work
  • You're able to use your years of experience to quickly move projects forward, leveraging domain expertise, establishing principles, and conducting research when necessary
  • You're able to drive the vision for the product and achieve it through design explorations, documentation, and presentations
