Job Description

The Reconciliation Team tracks the flow of money through Square’s payment ecosystem, ensuring that our merchants and external financial institutions correctly settle with Block on every single transaction.   We build services that ingest and process data for our roughly half a billion dollars of daily transactions, to make sure the money ends up in the right bank accounts.  We empower Accounting, Finance, Analytics, Payments, and product teams by delivering accurate data that not only are crucial to Block's financials but also have proven to serve as early warning indicators for many product systems at Block.

As a Software Engineer on the Product Reconciliation Engineering, you’ll work closely with other product and infrastructure engineering teams, data analysts, finance and accounting partners to build our data platform overseeing verification, alerting and reporting on money-moving transactions across the globe.

You will:

  • Scope, design and build products, systems, and services into reconciliation data systems to ensure Block's financial credibility
  • Lead and participate in critical technical discussions cross Engineering team boundaries
  • Opportunities to learn and leverage modern cloud technologies 
  • Partner closely with technical program managers, engineers and analysts to define and develop innovative and valuable solutions in diverse cross-functional groups
  • Contribute to the growth of our development capabilities through leading, mentoring and supporting fellow engineers

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of relevant data processing applications/infrastructure industry experience developing scalable production services
  • Experience with writing systems in object-oriented programming languages (such as Java)
  • Experience in cloud computing technologies, big data platforms, and data pipelining (such as AWS and GCP).
  • Experience developing backend infrastructure and/or open source projects

Preferred: 

  • Experience with GCP Google cloud platform

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
