Head of Growth Marketing, Canada

  • Full-time

Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Job Description

Our Global Marketing team helps businesses learn about Square and engage with our ecosystem of products and services. As our Head of Growth Marketing for Canada, you'll lead a small but strong team of marketers, ensuring we achieve our full business potential in the Canadian market. Reporting directly to our CA Head of Marketing, you will create our overarching growth strategy and ensure we are achieving our goals by optimizing across our paid, owned and earned marketing channels to maximize growth and efficiency. You will focus on driving in important lower funnel metrics such as acquisition, conversion rate, new seller quality and lead generation. You'll lead the team across several high growth and metrics-focused disciplines, such as performance marketing, lead generation and content marketing, and partner with numerous teams within and beyond marketing (including Product Marketing, SEO, Finance, Data Science, Industry Relations, etc.) to achieve your goals. Notably, you will partner very closely with our U.S.-based performance marketing "Center of Excellence" who directly manages our in-platform paid media activities (search, paid social, programmatic, etc.).

You Will:

  • Be people-focused: Lead, coach and set the agenda for a small, highly ambitious and successful growth team with an eye toward learning, development and career growth
  • Develop and implement a higher-level strategic view of how Square attains its growth goals in Canada and how the team will perform and positively impact the business
  • Evolve us to a more "full funnel" way of attracting, growing, retaining, and creating advocates out of our customers. This means intense collaboration with our website team, product teams and others to ensure our paid and owned channels are cohesive, connected and optimized collectively.
  • Efficiently (ROI) and effectively (quality) increase our investments and actions in channels such as performance marketing and lead generation to maximize our growth.
  • "Own the numbers". You will understand what's happening with our business in CA. You will socialize this understanding and insight both in standing reporting forums and reflexively.
  • Be relationship- and stakeholder-focused; this role needs to work closely and productively with multiple other functions (e.g. PMM, Sales, COE, SEO, Brand Marketing, Creative etc) and strong relationship building and stakeholder management skills are crucial.
  • Be an entrepreneurial and visionary growth marketing lead…..sparking ideas around both initiatives/experiments/pilots and process improvement.
  • Work with our Brand and Analytics teams to better understand how lower and upper funnel marketing activities are connected and influence each other.
  • Help evolve our thinking around performance indicators and benchmarks, working with our Global Analytics team to improve the fidelity and value of our weekly and quarterly reporting.
  • Inspire and ensure a proper cadence of high value experimentation and testing in our growth marketing efforts.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • 8+ years of experience in growth marketing disciplines including some combination of experience in paid performance marketing, lead generation and website/landing experience optimization.
  • People management experience and a passion for developing diverse, motivated and high-performing teams and helping them grow and shape their own careers.
  • The ability to use data and analytics to tell what is going on with the business, both from an internal marketing pov and an external macro and economic viewpoint.
  • Experience analyzing the entire user journey and developing both strategies and tactics that will optimize that journey and experience toward conversion.
  • Experience in developing solid strategic approaches to marketing and business challenges and getting both team and stakeholder buy-in to these
  • Proficiency with quantitative and data visualization/BI tools such as Excel, Looker, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience working with marketing measurement methods and tools, including multi-touch attribution, marketing mix modeling, incrementality testing, A/B testing, and beyond.
  • An understanding of how to best use creative and content, specific to platform application, to optimize different channels.
  • Excellence in project management. There will be many concurrent and high velocity workstreams your team will be engaged in. Proactive management and communication are must-haves.
  • Experience with landing page and broader website content/treatment testing. Website analytics know-how is also helpful.

Bonus:

  • Bi-lingual English/French
