As an Engineering Manager in the Merchant Domain you will be responsible for managing parts of the core services leveraged by our merchants and partners to surface Afterpay as a payment method. This is a highly cross functional team collaborating with stakeholders across Afterpay<>Square<>Cash ecosystem. The team’s focus will be on building and maintaining payment gateways and adjacent merchant services.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team that enjoys working with product and platform groups and delivering an amazing merchant experience.

You will:

Ensure the team is consistently delivering working software to our expected standards

Participate in the technical development and maintenance of Afterpay standards for software development, testing, release management and reviews

Technical ownership of the work that your team is delivering within each iteration or standalone deliverable

Work closely with the recruitment team to ensure smooth candidate experiences and top talent for the engineering teams

Undergo performance reviews and daily people management across the team

Proactively manage issues early to avoid bigger problems later

Proactively supporting your team members to achieve their performance and development goals

Ensure the team is collaborating closely with key stakeholders across the wider Block ecosystem

You have:

• Experienced leading teams in fast paced and complex environments

• Passionate about coaching and people development

• Experience in payments technology is desired but not essential

• An outcome focused and collaborative approach

• Strong stakeholder management skills

• Passionate about adding to and growing an organization’s engineering culture

• Enjoy driving the technical and product vision within the domain you operate in

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $222,800 - USD $272,300
Zone B: USD $211,600 - USD $258,600
Zone C: USD $200,500 - USD $245,100
Zone D: USD $189,400 - USD $231,400
