Job Description
MC1 is the code name for the newly formed team at Block responsible for design, implementation and productization of Block’s state-of-the-art custom bitcoin mining silicon chip and the accompanying software and mining hardware infrastructure (a.k.a. mining rig).
The MC1 functional team is initially organized into Engineering (system, IC, hardware, software) and Operation teams. As we build the team, more functional teams will be added to MC1, namely Product Delivery, Product Marketing, Product Design and Industrial Design teams.
This note summarizes the functions performed by the MC1 Technical & Engineering Program Manager as a member of the Operation Team.
Technical Program Management
Overall engineering program management for various cross-functional activites that will include IC, hardware, software and contract manufacturing for engineering builds
Establish and document development plans, project milestones, and progress tracking processes for the internal and external teams
Plan and manage program spending and the overall budget at quarterly and annual levels
Lead cross-functional programs over various engineering teams to design, develop, validate and productize MC1 chip and the mining platform
Identify, monitor and help resolve cross-functional interdependencies
Third Party Vendor Management
Establish and manage vendor relationships. Vendors include (but not limited to): IP cores, software design tools, EDA tools, system, lab equipment, engineering service, silicon foundries, off-shore assembly and test (OSATs), highly-specialized ASIC design and test houses, contract manufacturers and independent contractors
Coordinate external 3rd party activities and track issues with the external partners, vendors and service providers
Help with vendor selection through assessment, comparative analysis and review of offerings
Prepare, review, discuss and negotiate contract proposals, business terms, project plans, statement of work and deliverables with vendors
Facilitate exchanges with Block’s internal teams (legal, procurement, people, finance & strategy) for full execution of 3rd party contracts
Procurement
Onboarding new vendors following the internal Block’s internal processes
Create purchase requisitions and issue POs to vendors
Regular follow ups with vendors on deliverables and monitor plan execution
Help Finance & Strategy (F&S) team with monthly, quarterly and annual budget planning
Help Financial, Procurements and Account Payable teams with vendors payment and invoicing issues
Qualifications
8+ years of related experience in program management and/or factory operation in the semiconductor/electronic/consumer industries
Fair understanding of the ASIC design cycle
Fair understanding of the silicon fabrication process and/or fab plants/vendors
Understanding of silicon test infrastructure and processes
Knowledge of silicon packaging processes.
Ability to work in cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively with people in different functions, time zones
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
Excellent communication skills, organized and detail-oriented
Experience in dealing with OSATs is a plus.
Experience in dealing with Contract Manufacturing (CM) is a plus.
