Job Description

Block is looking for an International Indirect Tax Analyst to join its tax function. This position will be part of the Tax Team and will support all International transaction tax compliance, reporting, audits and integration activities as well as planning, consulting, and controversy. You must have the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment and work closely and proactively within the tax team and numerous functional teams across our organization. You may be remote or located in one of Block offices in the US.

We are looking for passionate individuals who will work as a member of Block's Tax team, leading efforts to support our product teams.

  • Provide support for compliance with all international indirect tax requirements, which includes, but is not limited to the management of the different source data, review the workpapers prepared internally or by a third party provider (e.g. VAT/GST returns, EC Sales list, intrastat, etc), monitor the compliance calendar.
  • Help implement processes as a result of evolving business practices or tax legislation.
  • Prepare and ensure efficient closure of all international indirect tax audits and tax assessment notices.
  • Support the preparation and review of the monthly international indirect tax accruals and reconciliations for essential accounts for SOX control purposes.
  • Be a productive member of a team of motivated tax professionals; work with outside service providers; team with internal groups within the Company such as accounting and legal departments.
  • Help develop software solutions for indirect tax automation; identify and develop the implementation of technology tools and process improvements to reduce low-value work, and increase tax resource productivity/focus on more value-added work.
  • Support tax leadership in establishing and refining tax policies and system workflows.
  • Provide analysis on a variety of international indirect tax questions from the business.
  • Support international indirect tax planning and potential acquisitions.
  • Help with legal and tax research related to different Block products in multiple countries, draft memorandum and other written documents, maintain knowledge of past, present and potential future international tax laws, guidance, and court decisions that are applicable to the core business.
  • Provide analysis on a variety of international indirect tax questions from the business.

  • Support international indirect tax planning and potential acquisitions.

  • Assist with legal and tax research related to different Block products in a variety of countries, draft memorandum and other written documents, maintain and communicate knowledge of past, present and potential future international tax laws, guidances, and court decisions that are applicable to the core business.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of tax experience working at a public accounting firm and/or multinational corporation; primarily focused on international indirect tax compliance.

  • Familiarity with e-commerce sales taxation trends and the international tax implications;
  • A great sense of accuracy and problem-resolution skills.
  • Ability to seek out and implement internal or external best practices, required.
  • Demonstrated passion and track record of delivering results in a rapidly changing business environment.
  • Must be able to analyze all sides of an argument, have strong analytical skills, document tax positions for our auditors, and ensure that the proper checks and balances are in place to ensure all aspects have been considered.
