Technical Program Manager, Risk Infrastructure

  • Full-time

Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Job Description

The Risk organization builds the teams, tools, and expertise necessary to help Square and our Merchants to take principled risks in creating growth and innovation. The risk infrastructure team builds platform level components to ingest data, build and train Machine Learning models, perform risk evaluations, monitor performance, and much more.

You will be a strategic partner to product management, data science, machine learning,  and engineering teams.

You will use that knowledge to plan and execute complex programs with multiple stakeholders. You will identify delivery risks and develop mitigation strategies. You will identify and remove obstacles to delivery to ensure the Risk Infrastructure team continues to ship remarkable products.

You will also develop and improve processes to help us continue to improve our operational efficiency. And you will drive clear decision-making processes to balance risk, effort, and target timelines.

You will:

  • Partner with technical teams and product managers to plan and execute multi-team and multi-stakeholder software and machine learning development programs.
  • Use your understanding of software/system integration, data science and machine learning to identify dependencies, critical path / "long poles," blockers, and key execution risks and develop actionable mitigation strategies.
  • Communicate key developments, updates, project health and risks, and manage expectations of all stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
  • Create program/project plans, secure team commitments, identify risks and mitigations and be the linchpin for the successful execution of infrastructure technologies.
  • Align large cross-team projects by driving annual and quarterly planning processes.
  • Drive and improve processes for planning and execution (such as annual and quarterly planning and business reviews).

Qualifications

  • Experience understanding high-level technical architecture and design.
  • Drive clarity from ambiguity and break down complex projects into manageable, interdependent deliverables.
  • The ability to understand and deal well with rapid development cycles and to remain flexible in the face of uncertainty.
  • Demonstrated experience managing trade-offs given specific constraints.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills; ability to inspire team members.
  • [Bonus] Experience in technical program management with Risk infrastructure and cloud architecture.
