The Corporate Systems Engineering team provides foundational services and tools for empowering Block employees to be their most productive and creative selves. Corporate Systems Engineering (CSE) is an essential team within the PIE (Platform Infrastructure Engineering) organization that has two foci: First, building tooling and automation to provide a seamless interaction with cloud services and applications. Second, building products and capabilities (e.g., CI/CD, monitoring, high-availability, infrastructure as a service) that allow our customers to easily engage with those tools to help them build remarkable solutions. CSE is an established team that has already made a great impact on Block’s corporate infrastructure offerings and is aspiring to build best in class cloud platform services.

We are looking for a software engineer (just like you!) to contribute to our technical vision and develop platform infrastructure. You will use your engineering experience with cloud platforms to improve Block’s corporate cloud infrastructure capabilities to make our services more secure, scalable, and reliable.

As a member of our team, you will:

• Develop both on-premise and cloud-based systems for CSE that support a global employee population.
• Help establish and improve measurable metrics for our platform’s success and service goals.
• Contribute to the team’s processes, long-term goals and help prioritize a roadmap to make our services more reliable, scalable and secure.
• Build APIs and highly available applications that allow Block employees to quickly and seamlessly deploy, monitor, and scale applications.
• Collaborate with business, data, product and other engineering teams across Block and grow the platform's footprint and impact.
• Report to the Corp Systems Engineering Lead

You have:

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.  
• Demonstrated excellence in building and owning highly scalable backend services
• 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms (we use AWS)
• 3+ years of experience with modern cloud infrastructure tools and technologies (Terraform, Docker, Consul, Saltstack, Nomad, Vault, Packer, Prometheus, Grafana)
• Experience designing and building APIs
• A desire to be directly responsible for the lifecycle of engineering solutions.  This includes leading the design and implementation of projects and organizing the team to achieve a remarkable solution.
• A love of automation, abstracting complexities away from customers, and making things that “just work”
• A strong desire to see your work have direct impact on the business
