About the Team

The Global Brand Marketing team at Square is dedicated to building the Square brand, first and foremost. We are a group that includes Brand Strategy & Insights, Brand Management, Experiential, and Partnerships. As a team we are united by our goal to create a unified and differentiated global brand through best-in-class marketing, customer engagement and experiences.

The Brand Strategist is an important role on our Brand Strategy & Insights team. You will be an expert and evangelist of Square's brand positioning, activating it internally and externally. With guidance from the Brand Strategy & Insights lead, you will partner with a variety of teams across the company to develop ideas for how the Square brand will shape strategies for how we will get there.

We are looking for a strategic, creative and results-oriented Brand Strategist who will help build the roadmap for future brand growth at Square.

You Will:

  • Help establish how our brand positioning and strategy translates across a range of dimensions globally
  • Dive deep into quantitative and qualitative data around our business, competitive landscape, cultural trends, and customer perceptions/behavior and can translate it into clear, relevant strategic growth plans.
  • Develop and socialize clear strategic brand frameworks, grounded in qualitative/quantitative insights, to position our brand for near- and long-term success.
  • Collaborate with Integrated Marketing team to ensure strategic understanding of creative projects and marketing activations against the brand framework
  • Work with Square's Marketing, Product and Creative teams to educate them on our brand position and ensure that our values and promise are reflected across our products, design, content and creative.
  • Co-create messaging frameworks and fresh programs that strengthen the brand's connection with our audiences
  • Author and present strategic guidelines to partners, ensuring that best practices are understood and activated across the company
  • Scope and guide medium/long-term strategy projects by partnering with Brand Insights to develop a cohesive learning agenda to identify growth opportunities
  • Use your taste and cultural observations to inform the work and keep the brand on the front end of culture.

Qualifications

You Have: 

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in brand strategy, marketing or advertising.
  • Balance of analytical and creative thinking
  • Self-starter with strong communication skills
  • Proficient at building presentations from scratch using a variety of programs including Google Docs, Keynote and Powerpoint
  • BA/BS degree required (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Passionate, brave and opinionated thinker who believes in the power of Brand
  • Great written and verbal communication skills - can clearly communicate an idea, thought or program to people at all levels of understanding and seniority
  • A solid perspective on brand strategy - how it's developed and how it can be activated
  • Comfort in interpreting, understanding and applying insights from marketing and brand research and analytics
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, with guidance from team leadership
