Job Description
Block is looking for an attorney with a passion for all things employment to join our legal organization. You will be Block's first international-based employment counsel and will advise on all things employment law-related in our Asia-Pacific ("APAC") region, covering Australia, China, and Japan, with the potential for new countries as Block expands. You will report into Employment Counsel.
You will:
Provide advice and counseling on a broad spectrum of employment law issues in the APAC region, including: recruiting, inclusion and diversity, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, pay equity, internal investigations, occupational safety, sick leave, compensation and benefits, privacy, contingent workers, and immigration
Collaborate with team members and manage projects with a team-oriented approach
Evaluate employment practices, policies, and processes to assess and execute priorities, and ensure compliance
Draft and review employment related agreements and templates
Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment related inquiries
Conduct audits, employment classification reviews, and support other compliance efforts
Perform due diligence and advise on employment aspects of M&A projects
Manage outside counsel on labor and employment matters, as well as manage employment litigation
Develop and conduct training programs for employees, managers, and the People team
Collaborate with local counsel to advise the People team and management on international employment and immigration issues
Qualifications
You have:
Qualified solicitor with 5+ years experience working in employment law, with an emphasis on Australian employment matters. Experience advising on broader APAC-region employment issues preferred, including Japan in particular.
Prior in-house experience, including working across international time zones, preferred
Experience analyzing and providing advice on state, federal, and local wage and hour compliance
Employment litigation experience preferred
Experience advising on M&A is a plus
Ability to practice, with an unrestricted practicing certificate, in Australia
