Finance & Strategy Manager, Developers + Partnership

  • Full-time
  • Alternate Location: New York, United States

Company Description

Since we first opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely – and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take a payment and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together. So we expanded into software and started building integrated, omnichannel solutions – to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, run a busy kitchen, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. And across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow all in one place.

Today, we’re a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex commerce operations, sellers just starting out, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers scale, so do our solutions. We all grow together.

There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a business that is big, meaningful, and lasting. And we are helping sellers around the world do the same.

Job Description

Finance & Strategy is responsible for improving strategic, financial, and operational decision-making across Square. Our team's core value is trust – we build it by making what is complex simple, and we do it with analysis that is accurate and easy-to-understand. Business partners appreciate our insight and trust us to help solve difficult problems. We believe good ideas can come from anywhere, and we'll rely on you to collaborate with others, form intelligent opinions, and present your thoughts to decision-makers and company executives.

The Square Seller business provides products and services that help sellers start, run, and grow their businesses and participate in the economy. The foundation of our offerings is a full service, managed payments system and extends to include point-of-sale software and services that help sellers make informed decisions on their orders, inventory, locations, employees, and customers.

We have grown to serve millions of sellers that represent a diverse set of industries and sizes, and span geographies including the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The Seller team includes both product teams, and go-to-market and operational teams.

Developer Platform and Partnerships:

A core part of Square's overall strategy is our open platform, which allows third-party developers, either partners or developers working for sellers, to leverage and extend our ecosystem. The Developers business directly enables this part of Square's strategy: our partners & developers can complement our ecosystem by closing gaps of category (i.e. industries we don't serve, or use-cases we have no offering for), and gaps of degree (e.g. enterprise scale marketing, or websites, etc). It enables our sellers to adapt to our existing systems and workflows. The Developers and Partnership F&S team oversees financial and strategic decisions supporting our investments in the Square Developers Platform and Partnership departments. These responsibilities include managing our API revenue model, monitoring important performance trends, and driving solutions.

You Will:

  • Manage the financial planning process for the Developers business including building financial models while working with the Developers and Partnerships team on strategy and forecasting.

  • Apply subject matter expertise of Square's Developers and Partnerships business to 1) forecast performance, including short- and long-term trends, 2) create analyses that facilitate clear decision making, 3) surface strategic insights for partners and 4) help inform Square's investment capacity across a range of responsibilities.

  • Partner with leads across the business to develop new Business Models and monetization strategies.

  • Support new market and product launches, including GTM strategy, pricing and packaging, and market sizing.

  • Partner with departments (e.g. Accounting, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, Sales and Marketing, and others) to analyze the financial impact of decisions across the company.

  • Summarize data from SQL databases and collaborate with multiple partners to understand complex relationships between key drivers of our business.

  • Help advise on operating expense budget activities to ensure investment allocation and resources are according to Square's strategic priorities.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or other relevant field

  • 6+ years of relevant industry experience

  • Excellent proficiency in financial modeling and Excel (can perform complex functions) *there will be a case study

  • Consistent track record of success and career progression

  • Experience with payments industry is a plus

  • Experience with SQL and data visualization tools (Looker) is a plus
