Job Description

The Opportunity

Afterpay is looking for a high-energy, dynamic sales and business development executive to forge and expand our relationships with top-tier Big Box retailers and brands that will drive significant value for the company. As a vital member of the sales team, you will be on the front lines of a fast-growing payments business - talking commerce with business owners of highly coveted brands to leading executives of Fortune 500 companies. You will be focused on Big Box, Department, Drug and Discount stores and a vertical dedicated to the growth of Afterpay via the largest merchants in North America.

The ideal candidate thrives in a challenging, fast-paced environment, has a passion for developing and expanding client relationships, and possesses the ability to create new opportunities and close them. As a member of the North American team, you have a unique opportunity to make an immediate impact and influence many aspects of the business. This candidate will have well-established connections to executives within the Big Box Store industry and network.

  • Be the voice of Big Box, discount, and department stores vertical to Afterpay and the market and identify emerging trends in the industry
  • Develop and grow a high-volume, ever-expanding sales pipeline within your dedicated vertical and accurately forecast new business
  • Work in partnership with sales management and the cross-functional teams to achieve and exceed business goals 
  • Be responsible for deal terms that deliver on Afterpay’s goals and KPIS while accelerating the close rate
  • Build and nurture strong relationships across all your accounts
  • Secure meetings with key decision makers
  • Drive merchant engagement to close deals
  • Deliver thought leadership across the vertical
  • Work closely with Afterpay’s analytics team to leverage insights to inform selling strategy 
  • Collaborate with pre-sales marketing team to identify creative ways to close deals
  • Capable of building and maintaining strong cross-functional relationships within the organization to ensure the success of the vertical and the company

Qualifications

You will have…. 

  • 8+ years experience in a sales or business development role
  • Demonstrated track record of managing complex sales processes with enterprise accounts, developing new business opportunities, exceeding sales targets, forecasting and closing sales
  • Large close network of executives, champions, and decision-makers in the Big Box, Discount, Drug and Department Store industries
  • Proven success selling to and working with executives at multi-million / billion dollar retailers and brands within Big Box, Discount, Drug and Department Stores
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships both internally and with C-level decision-makers
  • Understands financial and other quantitative levers relevant to merchants
  • Creative and strong storyteller that can leverage data to inform merchants on Afterpay’s value proposition
  • Collaborative team player, proactive, resourceful, efficient with a high level of energy and enthusiasm 
  • Comfortable concurrently managing multiple accounts and closing deals quickly  
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work fast & smart independently 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, organizational & time management skills
  • Must be willing to travel (once we are back to traveling!)
