The Customers Directory's mission is to help Square merchants grow their businesses by giving them the tools they need to know, support, engage, and acquire their customers. The products this team owns are used by thousands of Square merchants to engage with their customers and build lasting relationships. And when merchants are successful, so are we.
As an Engineering Manager on this full-stack team, you will be responsible for driving the technical direction of the team, managing product goals, contributing to product strategy, and hiring and scaling your team. You will work with leaders across the company, collaborate with world class product managers and designers, and contribute to the long term success of our organization and Square. Operating with scale and speed, we’re proud to have built an exceptional team of engineers who are just getting started – and as a manager, you guide the way.
Responsibilities
Help set broad direction and vision for the team while implementing delightful experiences for our merchants
Build a world-class team by hiring exceptional talent, coaching and developing your team, cultivating pragmatic engineering decision-making, and leveraging your technical expertise to constantly raise the bar
Lead and participate in critical technical, design, and product discussions with leaders across our product and operations
Own the success of your team's product and deliver quantifiable results in a timely manner
Build systems, services, and product features across multiple platforms that have immediate impact on customers
Technologies we use and teach:
- Languages: Javascript, Java, Go, Ruby, Kotlin
- Frameworks: JS Client - Ember, React, Services - gRPC / JAX-RS REST
- Databases: MySQL, Redis, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, BigQuery
- Infrastructure: Hybrid - Private DC / AWS / Google Cloud, SignalFX, DataDog, Snowflake
Qualifications
- 8+ years of full stack software development experience (experience with mobile development is a plus, but not required)
- 3+ years of experience managing teams with 8+ engineers, ideally at multiple companies
- Experience with release processes and collaborating with QA.
- Strong technical background in developing products and services
- Ability to lead and cultivate a sense of ownership, accountability & urgency in the team
- Strong communicator with great written communication skills
- Experience collaborating with engineering leaders and cross-functional team members
- Ability to provide technical mentorship and guidance to the team
