Job Description

Square Financial Services is looking for an experienced Operations leader with formal credit experience to manage a growing team and mitigate credit risk within the business financing space. The Credit Operations Team at Square Financial Services is responsible for safely providing funds to our customers to help them grow their businesses. You will report to the head of Credit Operations on Square Financial Services. You will analyze data using internal/external tools to distinguish risky accounts from opportunities across different types of businesses. The ideal candidate has formal management experience, loves credit underwriting and enjoys finding creative ways to manage risk while improving our client experience. Successful team members quickly become risk and product experts on Square Financial Services, allowing for opportunities to impact the product roadmap and customer experience.

You Will:

  • Manage a small team of high performing Credit Specialists who review loan applications and make credit decisions on our business lending product
  • Collaborate with teams across the company to set policies and mitigate risk of loss
  • Train new team members, provide ongoing career development and identify coaching opportunities
  • Define, test, and implement new strategies for the prevention of loan losses 
  • Monitor borrower accounts to maintain default rate within investor requirements
  • Maintain accurate, up to date process documentation and reporting
  • Communicate with applicants including investigative level conversations
  • Track and report team performance metrics
  • Surface opportunities to improve tools, workflow and customer experience
  • Participate in ongoing training to maintain current knowledge of BSA/AML and perform BSA/AML duties as required by job function


You Have:

  • 2+ years experience serving as a direct line manager for a team 
  • 3+ years experience in business lending or credit risk underwriting
  • Formal credit training
  • Experience with financial analysis including reviewing financial statements and cash flow lending
  • Must be a team-oriented individual with willingness to assist in training and development of new team members 
  • Previous experience with Merchant Acquiring or Credit Card processing is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and a detective-like mentality; simultaneous desire to help customers and obtain the truth
  • Experience working in SQL is a plus
