Senior Engineering Manager, Ireland/UK, Cash App

  • Full-time

Company Description

It all started with an idea at Square in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic app, bringing a better way to send, spend, invest, and save to our millions of monthly active users. We want to make the world’s relationship with money more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible. This is our mission, and it’s why working at Cash App means so much more than a job.

Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward creativity, collaboration and impact. We’ve been a distributed team since day one, and we’ve got offices and remote teammates across the globe. Our offices are great, but many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.

Job Description

We are looking for a talented, entrepreneurial Senior Engineering Manager with strong product know-how to establish Cash App as the clear leading FinTech app in Ireland and the UK. This role is based in Dublin and reports directly to the Head of Global Engineering (based in Melbourne, Australia).

You will be responsible for:

  • Product: Defining and executing the product roadmap (what we launch, when we launch it).
  • Engineering: Understanding what systems needs to be built or adapted to ensure the execution of the product roadmap.
  • Team Building: Building and scaling an engineering team across Europe to meet the needs of the product roadmap.

You must excel at all three aspects to succeed. You will work with the UK General Manager and foundational teams (Compliance, Regulatory, Tax, and Customer Support) to accomplish this goal. Together, this team will enhance our products in the US, and launch and grow them in the UK.

You will:

  • Partner with the General Manager for the UK, designers, engineers, and business leads to establish your team's vision and roadmap by thoroughly understanding your customers' needs.
  • Build products, systems, and services that have an immediate impact on our customers.
  • Build an outstanding team by hiring exceptional candidates and coaching engineers, promoting engineering decision-making, and applying your technical expertise to constantly improve.
  • Lead critical technical, design, product and partnership discussions with leaders across the company.
  • Foster ownership, inclusiveness, accountability, and urgency in the team.
  • Manage the success of Cash App business in the UK.

Qualifications

We value Engineering Managers/Leads who:

  • Lead with a people-first leadership approach, can encourage a conversation rather than dictate it, and are empathetic to conflicting viewpoints.
  • Have 10+ years experience working with product engineering teams and 5+ years experience leading teams of engineers, in remote and distributed teams.
  • Are able to build strong relationships with internal and external counter-parts, including compliance, legal, operations and customer support.
  • Excel at building outstanding engineering teams that are functional, collaborative and inclusive.
  • Have knowledge of consumer finance products (this is not essential, but is highly desirable).
