Job Description

You will:

  • Assist with legal and tax research related to different Square products in a variety of countries, draft memorandum and other written documents, maintain and communicate knowledge of past, present and potential future indirect  tax laws, guidance, and court decisions that are applicable to the core business

  • Lead the implementation of processes as a result of new and evolving business practices or tax legislation

  • Provide analyses in response to indirect tax questions from the business

  • Support global indirect tax planning and potential acquisitions

  • Provide support for compliance with all global indirect tax requirements, including, but not limited to managing different source data, reviewing workpapers prepared internally or by a third-party provider (e.g., SUT returns, VAT/GST returns, EC Sales list, intrastat, etc.), and monitoring the compliance calendar

  • Prepare and review of the monthly U.S. and/or international indirect tax accruals and reconciliations for key accounts for SOX control purposes

  • Prepare and ensure efficient closure of all U.S. and/or international indirect tax audits and tax assessment notices

  • Be a productive member of a team of motivated tax professionals; work effectively with outside service providers; collaborate with internal groups within the Company such as the accounting and legal departments

  • Support the development of software solutions for indirect tax automation; identify, develop, and direct the implementation of technology tools and process improvements to reduce low-value work and increase tax resource productivity/focus on more value-added work

  • Support tax leadership in establishing and refining tax policies, processes, and system workflows

Qualifications

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • 5+ years of tax experience working at a public accounting firm and/or multinational corporation; primarily focused on indirect tax

  • Familiarity with e-commerce sales taxation/VAT trends and the indirect tax implications

  • A great sense of accuracy; good listening, negotiation and problem-resolution skills.

  • An upbeat attitude; ability to seek out and implement internal or external best practices, required

  • Demonstrated passion and track record of delivering results in a rapidly changing business environment

  • Must be able to analyze all sides of an argument, have strong analytical skills, document tax positions for our auditors, and ensure that the proper checks and balances are in place to ensure all aspects have been considered

Preferred skills:

  • CPA and/or Master's in Taxation and/or JD/LLM

  • Experience using G Suite applications (e.g. Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides,)

  • Indirect tax experience in the technology industry and/or a multinational company.

  • Experience in Big 4 accounting firms and/or law firms is a plus.

  • Experience with running reports and extracting data or invoices from Oracle, MySql, Hyperion, APEX, Regulator, Looker, and Netsuite

  • Experience with maintaining, running reports, and extracting data from Vertex O
