Head of Industry Relations & Operations

  • Full-time
  • Alternate Location: New York, United States

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

We envision a fairer financial system, one in which everyone has access. We first reinvented Payments, democratizing access to credit card processing. Today, millions of sellers entrust us daily to ensure they "never miss a sale." Square Payments manages every dollar, euro, and yen that moves through our banks, partners, card networks, and internal systems.

We seek an Industry Relations Lead who is experienced in navigating the complex networks of industry (Payments + Financial Services) partners. We seek someone who is passionate about advancing the entire industry towards a fairer financial system and, in doing so, serving small business owners. We seek someone who will encourage the industry towards decentralization, new standards, and openness to Square's innovation, products, and services. We seek someone who can serve our Sellers by managing foundational industry and regulatory relationships, and the daily operations for incoming and outgoing payments.

In this capacity, you will build global strategic relationships with all Card Network Partners, Acquiring Partners, Bank Sponsors, and Identity Vendors. You will define and execute a comprehensive global payments strategy for Square in the rapidly evolving mobile payments and card acceptance space. You will maximize current partnerships through detailed and proactive account management, working with key industry partners, suppliers, and industry associations. You will strengthen Square's industry influence, and foster partner collaboration to enable new products, services, and standards.

You will humbly serve a global team of accomplished industry professionals, payment analysts, project managers, and relationship managers. You will require exceptional cross-functional collaboration, leadership, knowledge of global and local markets, and extensive experience representing digital payments products. You will require experience in commercial partnerships, payments operations, and supporting new product and service expansion into new markets against a backdrop of complex ecosystem role players. Relationships with such partners require strong cross-functional, internal collaboration with Global Product GMs and in-market teams, but also deep and extensive industry knowledge.

Qualifications

You have:

  • Prior experience within and a deep understanding of the payments industry

  • Experience on an executive-level deal team

  • Direct experience negotiating company-wide contracts with card networks

  • Understanding of the PSP business model and demonstrated performance in a regulated payments or electronic money institution

  • An ability to lead projects across teams, levels, and stakeholders including engineers, business partners, and executive leadership

  • An ability to identify and analyze nascent industry movements

  • The ability to lead, inspire, and explain

  • Experience building relationships with diverse sets of stakeholders and developing consensus

  • 15+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 12+ years with a Master’s degree

  • A passion for Square, and for humbly serving our Sellers
