Job Description

We are looking for a Bitcoin Transaction Monitoring Analyst to join Square and support the continued build-out and evolution of our Cash App Compliance Transaction Monitoring team. The mission of the Compliance Transaction Monitoring team at Square is to perform ongoing Anti-Money Laundering (AML) monitoring and other ongoing reviews to meet our regulatory, payment network, and partnership requirements. We actively monitor to ensure the safety and soundness of the Square system and maintain a healthy, compliant user base.

In this role, you will support the Cash App Compliance Transaction Monitoring team by monitoring customer Bitcoin activity across the Cash App platform for potentially suspicious activity. You will collaborate with the Compliance team to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and industry best practices 


  • Monitor and act upon Cash App compliance-related Bitcoin queue alerts, including reviewing possible suspicious activity and activity that violates Cash App’s rules

  • Use detective-like mentality to investigate and escalate potentially suspicious activity across all AML typologies across the Cash App platform

  • Verify customer and counterparty information and conduct reviews for AML/BSA purposes

  • Interact with internal stakeholders to ensure full compliance with all applicable laws and policies

  • Work cross-functionally with Support, Risk, and other operations teams within Square and Cash App

  • Occasionally attend compliance-related seminars to stay abreast of the compliance industry


You have:

  • 2+ years experience reviewing high volume of unusual Bitcoin or other virtual currency activity relating to payments and peer-to-peer transmissions from a BSA/AML compliance perspective

  • 2+ experience in transaction monitoring/compliance/AML with a financial institution or payment-focused company preferred

  • Knowledge and familiarity with Chainalysis & Elliptic

  • Deep understanding and comprehension of Bitcoin and/or other virtual currencies, and blockchain analysis

  • Knowledge of BSA/AML regulations, risks, and typologies

  • Passion for Cash App/Square, and a strong interest in technology/knowledge of the industry

  • A strong operations mindset involving time sensitive directives and ability to self-manage workflow across competing priorities

  • An ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with a drive to deliver outstanding results

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • 4-year undergraduate degree

Even Better:

  • Industry certifications (CAMS, CFE, CFCS, CRCM)

  • Experience with SQL and/or Snowflake
