Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

You will lead Square's Partner Risk and Compliance function and report to the Compliance Governance Lead. This function oversees our compliance programs and compliance relationships with payment network partners, acquiring partners, and other third parties. You will support Square's compliance vision by working together with other compliance and counsel personnel to guide the compliance program forward, focusing on partner risk and third-party compliance.

You will:

  • Develop and execute the vision for the partner risk and compliance function

  • Manage projects that span several business functions, stakeholders, and international regions

  • Coordinate your team’s activities with the other functions in Compliance Governance and the broader Compliance organization

  • Research relevant laws, regulations, and payment network rules and work with Compliance Governance, Product Compliance Managers, Legal, and Payment Operations to provide guidance and interpretation

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts at payment networks and acquiring partners

  • Communicate complex legal and regulatory concepts in an audience-appropriate manner

  • Provide expert advice for the design of policies, programs, procedures, and other controls

  • Lead and contribute to special projects with high impact to Square’s compliance program

  • Experience with international payments compliance

  • Demonstrated ability to develop compliance risk management programs

  • Ability to build relationships and establish trust and credibility with business leads, external partners, and regulators through collaborative and independent initiatives
