Senior Product Marketing Manager, Payments

  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

The Payments Product team manages Square's flagship payments product, making it possible for any seller to take card payments quickly and easily. Our team loves working on Payments because our product drives awareness of the Square brand, it is Square's first touchpoint with most of our sellers, and our business' economics help fuel the broader Square ecosystem.

The Payments Product PMM team drives global growth in payments processing volume. We do this by identifying which customer segments we can serve, understanding these sellers' needs, and using those insights to directly improve our product strategy and roadmap. We determine product positioning and messaging, develop full-funnel growth strategies, and implement acquisition campaigns to grow our business. We collaborate with multiple teams to ensure we build the right products and reach the right customers, with the right messages, through the right channels, at the right time.

You will drive go-to-market positioning, strategy, and execution as we expand our feature set and markets, and guide growth of payments processing globally. The role will report to the Global Product Marketing Lead of Payments Products.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and execute the marketing strategy for Square's payment products in existing and future markets, with responsibility for owned and organic marketing channels and inputs into paid marketing strategy

  • Develop product positioning, value propositions, and messaging to be used in product development and marketing campaigns for Square payments products

  • Understand our sellers; conduct surveys, interviews, and product usage analyses to learn who they are, what they need, how our products meet their needs, and what other alternatives exist in the market

  • Be the voice of the customer and partner with Product Management, Design and Engineering to determine the global product strategy and influence the product roadmap

  • When we launch new products, ensure they have been tested thoroughly in-market and that the right customers are getting the right message through the right channels, and that our local/regional partner teams are set up for success

  • Measure marketing program performance and improve results through continuous testing

  • Develop data-driven lifecycle marketing and cross-sell strategies to promote product growth and retention

  • Be the liaison between the Payments Product team and in-market Sales/Marketing/Customer Success/other local and regional teams to gather feedback and collaborate on local marketing opportunities and partnerships

Qualifications

  • A BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience (MBA preferred)

  • 8+ years of business/growth strategy and/or product marketing experience

  • Experience delivering growth in consumer tech or SMB tech

  • Demonstrated competence in marketing fundamentals including customer insight development (quantitative and qualitative), pricing analysis and recommendations, and executing go-to-market campaigns

  • Experience working with partner teams (product, eng, design) to develop and launch a product; experience partnering with central creative and marketing teams to execute marketing campaigns

  • Previous background in marketing to small business audiences, preferably with experience in payments, fintech, early stage startups, or consumer technologies

  • Genuine interest in and curiosity in helping small businesses succeed
