Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

You will manage a team of talented mobile engineers on the Square Android Application Development (SQUAD for short) team.  The team will build the next-generation experiences for Square's hardware: Register and Terminal. Your day-to-day involves partnering with your counterparts in our product and design organizations, as well as the Android hardware (OS, Firmware) and Foundation (authors of workflow) teams to build/establish application primitives, patterns, and best practices.  You will report to the engineering lead for the Prices and Devices organization.

You will:

  • Lead and build a team of Android engineers responsible for the user and developer facing part of the Square's custom Android OS.

  • Develop the team’s roadmap and goals in collaboration with your design, product, and data science counterparts.

  • Ensure a high level of engineering quality, delivering well-structured APIs, reusable components, and well tested, maintainable software.
