Job Description
We are looking for a Business Development Associate to join the Square Japan team.The third member of the Japan Partnerships team, you will report to the Lead - Partnerships in Tokyo. Our team's mission is to create an ecosystem that connects partners and sellers, and enables both to build a business on Square. You will help grow our Build With Square Platform by engaging with software platforms (eCommerce, booking and scheduling, accounting and tax, form builders, items and inventory, delivery and orders, marketing and analytics, point of sale) who can use Square's APIs to provide Japan businesses with tools to manage their business.
You will combine inbound and outbound partner prospecting. As the first line of contact for most partners, you will become an expert on the different ways Japan platforms can partner with Square (evaluating technical and business feasibility), and will be quick to react and qualify a partner based on our team's priorities. You will keep up-to-date with an ever-changing API ecosystem and partner landscape. Your success will be measured by the number of leads converted to opportunities for our Lead - Partnerships to close. This position can work from home, or from our Tokyo office.
You will:
Research and prospect partners across Japan that may be a good fit for Square, and understand how to handle objections you may encounter
Review leads from multiple sources (e.g. inquiry form, list source)
Evaluate the content of the lead and determine appropriate follow-up on each lead
Use multi-channel outreach methods (social media, outreach emails, phone calls) to qualify your leads
Create a great first impression with our prospective partners and inspire them to learn about how Squares Platform can benefit their customers
Schedule meetings between prospective partners and members of our Partnerships team
Become a Square API product expert
Partner with the Japan and global Partnerships team to gain exposure to the partnerships process and further develop your experience, and learn and maintain current understanding of Japan and global Square Partnerships processes
Leverage best practice from global Square colleagues to help build a locally optimized prospecting process for Square Japan Partnerships team
Maintain accurate lead status and documentation by using tools including Salesforce
Maintain current knowledge of the global Square product ecosystem
Keep up-to-date with the latest business, industry and product trends
Attain (and exceed) your business development goals
Qualifications
You have:
Undergraduate degree (preferably in a technical discipline) or equivalent experience
The ability to work with Japan-based prospective partners in Japanese (writing and phone), and global Square colleagues in English (reading, writing and video meetings)
A desire to further develop your career in business development
Some experience in a qualifying or prospecting role with the ability to conduct outbound multi-channel outreach
Passion, curiosity, hunger, and perseverance
Critical thinking and strong decision-making abilities
A passion for technology and the industry Square operates in
