Square is looking for a creative engineer to join the Corporate Purpose function of our team, a diverse group of individuals that uses data, design, and storytelling to advocate for Square's brand globally. Reporting to our Design Lead, you will bring technology to our creative process daily. As our first creative engineering hire, you will help conceptualize and deliver creative web experiences beyond the current scope of our web content platform and build the Square, Inc. hub from the ground up. The front-end interactions you bring to life will create remarkable experiences for all of our audiences.

You are well versed in an appropriate mix of development and prototyping platforms and tools, and know how to select the best platform for the task. You create code that is flexible and can be iterated upon, and pride yourself on being up-to-date with the latest best practices. Thriving on exploration and experimentation, you are at the heart of co-creating ideas and bringing them to life. Your skill-set complements your application of technology including but never limited to: a precise eye for intelligent UX, great design, and good foundation in strategy.

You will:

• Participate in concept development iteration 

• Develop prototypes coming out of ideation to create custom content experiences (i.e. infographics, interactive tools and more) and quickly demonstrate what an idea looks and feels like in life 

• Work creatively through and around perceived limitations and challenges imposed by the delivery platform to create delightful experiences for customers

• Evaluate and document any new creative or engineering standards or patterns that could arise from your work

• Participate in team strategy discussions and brainstorms

• Create and own product road-maps

You have:

• BS in Computer Science or a related technical field, and 5+ years of relevant work experience 

• Front-end development - HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

• Backend development - Familiarity of Ruby, Java or other backend languages 

• A portfolio of work that displays responsive web examples, iconography, typography, color, and imagery

• An understanding of web standards, browser performance, and basic UX/UI principles 

• A history of collaboration with other non-technical teams 

• Skills to clearly communicate complex problems to any audience in verbal, visual, or written formats.

Even better:

• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Figma

• Experience with animation and motion for the web

• Experience with D3.js
