Company Description
Job Description
The global Square Risk team works to protect Square, Square sellers, and enable safe growth across our ecosystem. We are looking for a credit risk professional to join Square’s Australia Risk team to assess credit risk for prospective and existing sellers processing payments using Square and take appropriate action following operational and risk policies. As the primary credit representative for Square in Australia, you will enjoy managing an independent workload and working with internal partners including Sales and Compliance. You will frequently work with USA-based Global Credit Risk team members on US cases. You will also work with Australia Risk team members on broader team policy projects.
You will understand credit and financial analysis, and have a desire to apply those skills in innovative ways to help Square grow annual processing volume while controlling loss related to charge backs. You will have a seller-first mentality, ensuring we live up to our purpose of Economic Empowerment, even if it isn’t always the easiest course of action. You will look for process improvements and test new approaches to how we manage risk. This role can be based anywhere in Australia.
You will:
Perform review of high-risk onboarding and existing sellers and transactions.
Analyse processing history, business model, financial/bank statements and other information to make informed credit decisions.
Lead due diligence calls with prospective and existing sellers to ensure that the risks posed by their business are understood.
Prepare short- and long-form credit write-ups that detail key risks, mitigating factors, and recommendations.
Be the credit risk liaison to other internal Square teams including Legal, Sales and Customer Success.
Voice specific credit policies and decisions to Square teams and sellers.
Identify process improvements and contribute to key Credit Risk and wider Risk team initiatives.
Qualifications
Some experience in commercial banking, consulting, FinTech, or financial services.
Experience with commercial credit and financial statement analysis.
The desire to create, improve, and question.
A team-oriented approach with a focus on accountability.
Undergraduate degree in Finance, Mathematics, or Accounting preferred.
Optional
US credit risk work experience.
Understanding of the online payments landscape across all participants: issuer, merchant, acquirer and network.
