Product Designer, Payroll

  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

**For consideration, please submit a link to your portfolio.**

Much in the same way that Square revolutionized payments, we want to radically alter how businesses and their employees manage their most challenging cash-flow issues. Our mission is to provide small businesses and their employees best-in-class tools to make running a business simple and personal by applying automation and a seamless user-experience. Our small, collaborative team has already built many foundational features and are now focused on innovating and experimenting beyond a traditional payroll product. We want to transform the lives of people that make their living through our platform. We’re an essential and growing part of the Square ecosystem and are using our position to build products and features that are beyond the capabilities of our competitors.

This is a high impact role and we’re looking for someone that is motivated by complex problems. You’ll be directly responsible for decisions that influence the product and roadmap. On this team your work will span from core features to experimental projects. We believe in generalists that have a hand in each stage of the product development process, so Product Designers at Square take projects from napkin sketches to final visual specifications. This will be a cross-functional role where you will work closely with other designers, product editors, analysts and engineers.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience turning complex problems into simple and engaging customer experiences for the web, iPad, iPhone, and Android
  • Expertise in developing information architecture, interaction models, customer flows, schematics, and visual design for products and services
  • The ability to communicate interactions at varying levels of resolution
  • Demonstrated comfort with an iterative design process that includes accepting and acting on feedback and constructive criticism

Even better:

  • Experience conducting customer research ranging from insight protocols to usability tests
  • Background developing interaction prototypes
  • Experience with motion design and related software
