Product Manager, Payments Platform

  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

The Payments Platform is an open, global financial services platform for developers who serve sellers. It provides the necessary components to manage identity, process payments across multiple channels, hold and transfer funds, and provide accounting, reconciliation, and reporting in a secure and compliant way.

We are looking for a product manager for our financial accounting platform. Imagine every Square seller had access to an automated financial accountant to help them reconcile, manage their cash flow, and close their books—a CFO as a service if you will. Then imagine the platform allowing Square or 3rd party developers to build these financial services products. Building this platform is what your job would be.

As a product manager, Financial Accounting, you will lead the direction of your product by setting vision and partnering with the engineering manager of your sprint team to guide execution. You will advocate for the voice of our sellers and developers to provide a reliable, scalable and secure platform that allows Square and 3rd-party developers to innovate on behalf of our sellers.

You will:

  • Run your product like a business: manage the entire product life cycle from ideation, to planning and execution
  • Focus the team on the most impactful projects by understanding the jobs to be done, summarizing those needs into your product roadmap, and defining key metrics
  • Manage expectations by communicating progress to team members and partners
  • Align for large cross-team projects by guiding your team's annual planning process.
  • Ensure the health of your product by balancing new features with maintenance and technical debt.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 6+ years of product management experience or equivalent and strong customer empathy
  • Experience in business financials such as double-entry accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting
  • Passion for our purpose of economic employment and innovation on behalf of our sellers and developers
  • Experience launching and scaling platform products with public APIs, SDKs, or toolkits and maintaining them across multiple versions
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills that shine when you’re talking with a customer, working with engineers, or engaging an audience
