Square’s Hardware Team builds the tangible connection to Square. We started with a simple and elegant Reader that turns any phone or tablet into a mobile point of sale - and we continue to lead this category with advances in chip card and NFC technology. Next, we introduced the Square Stand, the best way to turn your iPad into a counter-top point of sale. Most recently, we expanded our Hardware portfolio with our first Android-based solution: Square Register, the first fully integrated point of sale that enables people to start selling right out of the box. As we introduce more products, we will meet the needs of more and more sellers with stand-out hardware products, globally. You will develop the platform that powers Square’s hardware products. As part of the team, you’ll lead projects that involve collaboration with teams across Square and will help Square’s Hardware team realize its opportunity for growth.
Role Location:
We want employees to be able to reside where they feel most creative and productive. You will be part of an org that works across Pacific, Central, and Eastern time zones.
In this role, you and your direct team will be based in the Pacific and Eastern time zones. This role is open to all people who can be effective partners with this team, including sharing typical working hours.
Qualifications
You will:
Learn how to customize the Android Open Source Project for different hardware products
Design great code for embedded platforms with the guidance of more senior software engineers
Participate in all development phases from requirements gathering to production
Collaborate with teammates during the software design process and participate in code reviews
You have:
Programming experience in one or more of C, C++, Java, and Python
Recent (or upcoming) graduate between 2019-2020, with BS in CS, CE, EE, or equivalent practical experience. Bootcamp graduates and engineering training participants are also eligible upon completion of program requirements.
An interest in building and shipping hardware products
Even better:
Firmware and embedded software development experience
Experience developing Linux Kernel extensions and device drivers
Experience developing Android applications
Languages and technologies we teach:
