Job Description

The Finance & Strategy team is responsible for improving strategic and financial decision-making across the company. Finance & Strategy team members have an intimate understanding of Square's business. We gain this by leveraging tools like Excel and SQL to evaluate customer and financial trends, answer business questions with data-driven insights, and communicate actionable recommendations.

We’re looking for an analyst who will work as a member of Square’s Finance & Strategy team supporting both our UK and overall International business. You will play an integral part in Square’s success across both the UK and other International markets by providing strategic decision support, forecasting, financial planning & reporting. This position will be based in our EMEA HQ in Dublin, Ireland, and will report to the EMEA CFO. 

You will:

  • Act as a Finance Business Partner for our UK team, working closely with the country leadership team in both San Francisco and the UK. This role will also have involvement supporting our broader international efforts, including new market initiatives. 

  • Own top-line revenue forecasting for the UK and any other new European markets.

  • Prepare, report and analyze business results, communicating key takeaways to senior stakeholders (e.g. company executives and Board members). 

  • Support strategic decision making, which will include analytics initiatives such as financial modeling, go-to-market strategy formulation, and pricing analysis for both existing and new products.

  • Be the subject matter expert on financial performance in market, surfacing key insights for business partners, understanding all key drivers, trends, opportunities and risks. 

  • Liaise with the International Accounting team on transactional and financial close matters to ensure accuracy over financial statement reporting.

  • Support the regional CFO with adhoc projects as required. 

Qualifications

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or another relevant field

  • 3 to 5 years of experience focused on financial modeling or commercial finance (e.g. investment banking, consulting, corporate finance, or qualified accountant with commercial experience/acumen). 

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (you should be prepared for an Excel modeling test)

  • Excellent business acumen and communication skills

  • Ability to execute independently and engage with team members of all levels and across all business functions

  • A highly analytical and inquisitive work style with a keen attention to detail -- but also ability to see the big picture

  • Commitment to Square's purpose of Economic Empowerment

  • Willingness to travel as required (mostly UK and San Francisco)

Even Better

  • Experience with SQL/comfort working with large data sets and creating data visualizations

  • Experience in the payments industry and/or in a large international organization
