We are looking for a Director-level Design Lead for the team that builds and operates our new consumer lending product, Square Installments. As the Design Lead, youll report to the Head of Design and have influence over all aspects of the customer experience across all product and marketing touchpoints, you will lead and grow a team of world-class designers, and you will have the opportunity to work within the support of Squares established and iconic brand while re-evaluating and rethinking the patterns which brought us to today.
This is a high impact role and were looking for someone motivated by complex problems. The Capital Design Team is highly collaborative and you will work closely with product managers, engineers, marketers, and data scientists to create world-class experiences for our customers. Youll be directly responsible for decisions that influence the product and roadmap. On this team your work will span from core features to experimental projects.
From the earliest days, Design has played a central role in Squares product development. Whether its crafting the products our Sellers rely on to run their businesses or designing a website for a new launch, the Design team is involved at every step. Were responsible for creating the brand promise customers have in their first interaction with Square Capital and ensuring we deliver on that promise in every aspect of the experience. Its crucial we communicate confidence and credibility at every step.
Shaping the vision of a new consumer product that requires both emotional and bottom-line appeal.
Function as strategic partner for the Head of Product for Square Installments
Working cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Business to define key objectives, interactions and functionalities of Installments product.
Conducting user research for the needs of the product by meeting with merchants and consumers and gaining first-hand experience
Problem-solving how to maintain Squares level of design and appeal while also successfully integrating with key partners
Hiring and managing a small team of talented product designers
6+ years designing for digital products with a strong portfolio of product design with detailed interactions
Design for the entire product process from high-level flows to interactions at a granular level
A track record of success (and enjoyment) in people leadership and management; this includes: hiring, training and developing, leadership-by-example, and organizational design
Embrace constructive criticism as part of the iterative design process and can clearly articulate your design decisions
Are experienced working with and contributing to a product style guide
Confident creating new visual directions, including color theory and typography, and ensuring theyre carried out consistently
Pride yourself on unparalleled collaboration skills and you look forward to partnering with PMs, engineers, and researchers to create beautiful products in an agile environment
Love getting input from users and dread making decisions without it
Experience working in fintech, payments, or a related space.
Background developing interaction prototypes
Experience with motion design and related software
