Job Description

We are looking for a Director-level Design Lead for Caviar. As the Design Lead, youll have influence over all aspects of the customer experience across all product and marketing touchpoints, you will lead and grow a team of world-class designers, and you will have the opportunity to work within the support of Caviar and Squares established and iconic brand while re-evaluating and rethinking the patterns which brought us to today.  

Design has been central to our product development process from the very beginning: we employ design thinking to build easy-to-use tools that help diners find the meals theyre looking for, enable restaurants to better connect with and serve customers, and empower couriers to flexibly earn while delivering food to diners across the country. As the Design Lead for Caviar, youll be leading research, directing and contributing to visual and interaction design, building, managing, and mentoring a team of embedded generalist designers, collaborating with other team discipline Leads, and presenting work and progress to Caviar and Square executives.

The breadth of this role will span:

  • Shaping the vision of a product that requires both emotional and bottom-line appeal.

  • Working cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Business to define key objectives, interactions and functionalities of Point of Sale product.

  • Conducting user research for the needs of the product by meeting with merchants and gaining first-hand experience

  • Problem-solving how to maintain Squares level of design and appeal while also successfully integrating with key partners

Qualifications

You have:

  • Experience turning complex problems into simple and engaging customer experiences for the web, iPad, iPhone, and Android

  • A track record of success (and enjoyment) in people leadership and management; this includes: hiring, training and developing, leadership-by-example, and organizational design

  • Expertise in developing information architecture, interaction models, customer flows, schematics, and visual design for products and services

  • The ability to communicate interactions rapidly at varying levels of resolution

  • Demonstrated leadership in an iterative design process that includes accepting and acting on feedback and constructive criticism

  • Excellent collaboration skills

  • Experience working with product and engineering to rapidly and iteratively prototype

  • Innate curiosity and a desire to be responsible for all aspects of a product in a small, highly focused, and very rapidly growing team

  • You must deeply enjoy creating and shipping products and experiences

Even better:

  • Experience conducting customer research ranging from insight protocols to usability tests

  • Background developing interaction prototypes

  • Experience with motion design and related software
