Job Description

 The Hardware Regulatory Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of certification and regulatory compliance of Square hardware and coordinating requirements definition, test activities and deliverables across internal and external teams and partners. The Hardware Regulatory Manager must be highly technical, organized, a strong communicator and able to juggle multiple projects at once. The Hardware Regulatory Manager is part of the Hardware Engineering Program Management organization and reports to the Lead of Hardware Engineering Program Management.

You Will:

  • Continuously monitor and determine what certifications are required for a given product across target markets.

  • Monitor changing standards and understand how Square products are affected.

  • Provide design-for-compliance feedback early in the design process to make the certification process as efficient as possible and reduce time to market.

  • Work with internal and external teams to identify requirements, create test plans, expose dependencies, and optimize schedules..

  • Drive cross-functional teams and contract manufacturers to deliver necessary work in order to successfully execute defined test plans within Hardware system schedule.

  • Manage testing at off-site test labs.  

  • Work with Square Hardware Engineering, Packaging, Manufacturing, Software, Retail, Logistics and Business groups to create detailed country-by-country international roll-out plans for all sales and distribution channels.

  • Manage certification document repository and ensure it is kept up to date.

  • Build partnerships with test labs, certification bodies, and CM/OEM partners to leverage their capabilities.

  • Contribute to Program Management  Best Practices

  • Manage Budget for compliance activities

  • Participate in hardware compliance audits as needed and drive readiness for hardware design and factory audits.

You May:

  • Manage direct reports to execute compliance activities.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • BS in related technical discipline, MS desired.

  • 5-10 years of industry experience.

  • 5-10 years of project management experience.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and ability to communicate with various engineering and business partners.

  • Experience with global regulatory compliance of consumer electronics products.  (Safety, radio, EMC/EMI)

  • Familiarity with payment technologies and certifications.

  • Must be able to sift through ambiguous/competing/changing standards and provide clear guidance to Square’s hardware design team, including assessment of potential risks/pitfalls of a given design path.

  • Experience managing overseas vendors (CMs, OEMs) to outsource compliance testing and certification.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to travel internationally (less than 25% time).
